You're invited to take part in this workshop led by Rob Holland and members of the Passive Fire Safety Systems working group. This session will start by walking you through the draft Code of Practice, including its guiding principles, scope, and the objectives behind it and then move on to reviewing the proposed new inspection procedures - accompanied by a real-world worked example to demonstrate how the draft document works in practice.

After that, you'll break into small groups where you'll use the draft document to assess a high-risk building. You'll plan inspections, propose remedial actions, and really get a feel for how the COP is meant to be applied in real-world situations.

This isn't just a presentation—it's a chance to engage deeply with the material. You'll get to explore how it all works, discuss it with your peers, and most importantly, share your feedback directly with the working group. We want to hear what you think—what works well, what could be improved, and any suggestions you have.

This is the only time this workshop will be held before the Code’s release, so don’t miss your chance to help shape the final version – we’re all in this together, He Waka eke noa!

As the regulatory landscape continues to evolve, so too does the need for greater assurance that those carrying out compliance-related work are competent to do so.

For IQP's this assurance is provided through a structured competency assessment, a process that evaluates whether an individual possesses the appropriate knowledge, skills, and experience to perform their duties effectively and within their scope of expertise.

This workshop introduces the concept of a competency assessment in the context of the IQP framework.  It will explore why these assessments are essential, not just from a regulatory perspective, but to support consistency, accountability, and public confidence in the built environment.

This workshop will be hosted by Ryan Cooper and Trent Fearnley

Inspection of Fire Doors - what happens if they fail?

We are excited to bring you another opportunity to witness a fire test - this time, though, on a doorset.

At this test workshop, you will:

  • “Sneak a peek” into the process the FTSL team goes through before the test.
  • Listen to the explanations on what defines the doorset test failure.
  • Inspect the doors before the test and make your predictions about their fire performance.
  • See whether your predictions coincide with the actual performance during the test.

Alex Kokorin and Andy Bain will work closely with you during this hands-on door testing workshop and present in action the challenges of passing a certification test on doors.

Let’s see if we can fire-rate those doors!

Note: This field trip requires you to be at Fire TS Lab at 8am for the test.  For those at the conference venue, a bus will be leaving at 7.15am
