Compliance Schedule Best Practice
This is a 4-hour workshop that provides a practical hands-on opportunity to work through and complete a detailed compliance schedule document working with the new MBIE ‘best practice’ exemplar compliance document, guideline and ABC Code of Practice, learn from those who wrote it. It also provides you with the tools needed to write your own Compliance Schedule.
The course is designed for both IQP’s and Building Compliance Officials. Whether you are new or experienced in the industry this is a good course designed to upskill you with the new formats and requirements from MBIE.
You will be provided with the new compliance schedule templates that match the MBIE exemplar document, and our specialist trainer will guide you through the process and completion of a new or updated compliance schedule amendment.
Through a step-by-step approach you will work on the process of writing and completing your compliance schedule and cover the following:
1. Introduction to the MBIE guidelines document.
2. Setting up your compliance schedule structure and site information.
3. Completing the front cover, contents page and general building information.
4. Review best practise and how to establish what is the correct identification and list of specified systems that should or possibly should not be covered in your compliance schedule.
5. Understand the details for specified systems that are included on the Compliance Schedule.
6. What photo, appendices and attachments should be with the Compliance Schedule and what you should be able to obtain from your local Council if and when you need it.
7. Discuss and share a re-occurring issues. Share a recommended approach when requesting additional or specific information from installation contractors, inspection agents or service providers.
Variances in some content and process to the completion of your compliance schedule to align with your local council requirements will also be considered.

ABCTech training workshops offered by the Association of Building Compliance (ABC) are intended for introductory or refresher CPD only. While these workshops provide valuable educational support and technical information, it is not designed to replace formal qualifications or certifications however they are designed to complement them. Completion of our training does not grant certification as an Independently Qualified Person (IQP) or other professional designations but can be used in evidence to support an application.
OUR PRESENTER
Trent Fearnley has over 26 years of experience in the fire industry and the education industry, from firefighting to fire investigator to fire risk management and fire engineering.
Trent brings his vast experience and capabilities from his previous roles as National Advisor Fire Risk Management in Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ), Developer and Subject Matter Expert for the NZ Diploma in Fire Engineering at the Open Polytechnic of NZ to the role of Technical Director to support and grow the skills of our Association.
Trent’s current roles as Director of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and Board Member of Vocational Engineering Education NZ also provide key relationships and knowledge of the education sector to the role. The landscape of Safety Critical Work is changing and we want to prepare our members for any changes that may happen. Trent has been involved in the changes introduced by the Reform of Vocational Education and we wish to utilise his knowledge to benefit our members.
