Ventilation plays a major role in building life safety, from providing safe air from the outside to extracting polluted air from inside the building. It can play a vital part in fire safety design also.

This workshop will look at the various types of ventilation systems that are included under the Specified Systems. It will simplify the numerous requirements and focus on the inspection criteria. The workshop will cover the following topics:

1. Building Act and Building Code relating mechanical ventilation

2. NZBC G4 Ventilation requirements and compliance

3. Basis HVAC design criteria

4. Smoke Control Systems

5. Fire Dampers

6. Stairwell Pressurisation

7. Fume Cupboards

8. HVAC Interface with fire safety features

Cost: Members $625+GST and Non-members $750+GST

The course includes a post course assessment. On completion of the assessment, you will be awarded a Certificate of completion and 8 hours of CPD.

Our presenter - Prashant Patel

Prashant arrived in New Zealand in 2003 from Mumbai, India, as a Mechanical Engineer. Over the past 21 years, he has completed extensive training in Mechanical, Smoke Control, Fire Protection, Electrical, and Seismic sectors.

Since his arrival, Prashant has gained diverse experience working across the industry as a contractor and consultant. His career includes roles with some of New Zealand’s largest councils, district health boards (DHBs), and consulting firms specializing in mechanical, fire, and structural engineering. As a Mechanical/Fire Technical Consultant, he has contributed to various engineering disciplines.

Currently, Prashant is the owner and partner of multiple companies, including Building & Engineering Services, Nexus Building & Fire Services, and Mechanical Services Solutions, providing engineering and consulting services across New Zealand. His expertise spans Mechanical, Fire/Smoke Control, and Seismic-related building services.

Prashant is an active member of professional organizations such as Engineering New Zealand (EngNZ), the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the Institute of Refrigeration, Heating & Air Conditioning Engineers (IRHACE), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESoc), and the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE). He is also an IQP and Producer Statement (PS) author, approved by various councils for multiple specified systems.
