NZ Police update - Otahuhu/Mt Wellington
We are writing to advise of a crime trend that has been observed in the Otahuhu/Mt Wellington area over the past two weeks as advised by NZ Police.
Fire hose couplings have been targeted by thieves primarily at commercial premises afterhours (1900-0500) and on weekends.
So far, Police has received 8 recorded thefts and 1 anecdotal report. All are concentrated to the area depicted below:
There are clearly significant risks to human life & property if a fire were to break out and the coupling is missing when it needs to be used.
If possible, it may be prudent to have members check their buildings, particularly if they are in the targeted area.
If thefts are discovered, reporting to Police through the 105 phone number or online is the gold standard for data assurance.
Please feel free to share this message to colleagues, partner agencies and industry bodies.
