Happy New Year!
As we usher in a brand-new year filled with promise and possibilities, I extend my warmest greetings to each and every one of you, as well as our amazing Sponsors. I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and high spirits.
We have a number of exciting initiatives and partnerships lined up for this year for our members so be sure to keep an eye on our monthly newsletters and website.
I have no doubt that this year we will face some complex challenges that demand input from the Association. Please be assured that your Management Team will always do our best to provide innovative and practical real-life solutions which are in the best interests of our members and public safety. In such cases we may call upon you for your input and assistance as it is through collaboration and shared expertise that we can make and or influence the changes we need as an industry. It's important to attend your regional forums where you can in person and if you can't make the meeting you can join in online for any of the forums being held nationally. I also encourage you at your regional forums to be solution focused. It is easy to get wrapped up in what is wrong however if we have ideas on how to tackle a problem that either the collective is having or a member, then we can make real progress.
Thank you for your support of the Association of Building Compliance, and here's to a year filled with new connections, good changes, prosperity and continued learning for us all.
Nga mihi nui,
Laura Williams
A Word from the CEO
Kia ora koutou,
I hope you all have had a good break, rested well and are geared up for a big year packed full of new seminars, CPD training and our conference. We have been working hard over the break to re-vamp some of our existing courses and have just about put the finishing touches on some new ones. Make sure you check out our Whats On page for more information about up and coming events.
Our project with MBIE on the Compliance Schedule Handbook took a pause in 2023 due to the extra work required by MBIE after the Loafers Lodge fire. We will endeavour to get this back on track and we will keep you posted on the updates. Recent events and new forms have highlighted the need for more awareness of the legislation and a need for upskilling of our industry. We will address this both with the Handbook and more training.
In February you will be sent out your invoices for the 2024/25 membership year, please look out for these in your emails.
We will also be adding to our Website help page to assist you more in downloading CPD logs and certificates. We are here to help you, so please let us know if you need any assistance at all.
Nga mihi,
Trent Fearnley
Whats happening in Training?
We have published the new list of courses for the first part of the year. The whole years list will be published by the end of the month. There is a range of new offerings and we are endeavouring to update our existing courses with the latest information and industry updates from Standard NZ and MBIE.
If there is a course which you don't see on our website that you want, then please contact us to see what we can do for you.
For a list of all courses throughout the year and a detail description of them, please visit our website via the link below to find one near you or online. Remember, if you have the numbers locally, we can come to you.

Regional Forums
Our first round of Regional Forums starts next month with the first one on 14 February in Christchurch. As usual, Christchurch will lead the way with exciting speakers and a great turn out. This is a challenge to the rest of the country, keep updated with the industry by attending these forums.
These forums are free for members to attend and for those interested in becoming members. We provide refreshments too but please register via our website. Registration assists with CPD and certificates and catering for the forum. All our forums will also be available live online for you too, but you have to register to get the link to join. It's important to attend your regional forums where you can in person and if you can't make the meeting you can join in online for any of the forums being held nationally.
A list of the full years forum schedule and registration links can be found here.

S-RaD forms:
Are you using these forms correctly? Remember these forms are for missed inspections only. Listing the defects is useful information for the Territorial Authority but they are not for defects only. There is a different process if you have defects and have attended all inspections.
